DEVANTE RODNEY is ready to reject the offer of a new deal at Hartlepool United.

And Pools are likely to come up against him next season with Salford City his most likely destination.

The newly-promoted National League North champions have already signed five new players this summer since Graham Alexander was appointed manager.

Rodney is out of contract at Victoria Park and has been offered a new deal. But amid interest from other clubs, is ready to reject the offer and move on.

He has divided opinion at Pools. Scoring a handful of vital and spectacular goals, but his performances have been erratic in nature.

Rodney scored three times last season, his 90th minute leveller at Fylde the pick of the bunch and will leave Pools after making 21 league starts and 24 appearances from the bench.

Pools, set to finalise the capture of Ross County centre-half Andrew Davies, lost defender Liam Donnelly to Motherwell earlier this week. Pools agreed a £20,000 offer from the SPL side with a sell-on clause for any future transfer.

The club will be due a development fee for Rodney as he leaves under the age of 24.

Pools have sold over 500 season tickets since they went on sale and the early take-up has pleased club president Jeff Stelling.

He joined forces with Raj Singh to help save the club and take control at Victoria Park.

Club President Stelling says it’s given a massive boost to the owners to see the fans once again coming out in their numbers to support the Club and hopes it can continue throughout the summer.

“I’m really encouraged that the fans have come out and supported us in this sort of way,” he told the club website.

“Especially after the season we had last year, it’s brilliant that people are still willing to part with their hard-earned cash to back the club.

“Obviously we’ve done our bit by freezing prices and offering free kids tickets but what the response tells you is that people have realised just how close we were to losing the Football Club and just how important it is to them.

“It’s still the heartbeat of the town and when that heart almost stopped beating at the end of last season I think it’s made everyone more determined, fans included, that it’s never going to happen again.

“From an owners and club point of view, all I can do is thank them and hope that many more do the same thing – and when the season gets underway we can show them that their faith has not been misplaced.”

Pools are offering free season tickets for under-12s and supporters have until July 4 to take advantage of discounted offers.

The club’s Supporters’ Trust is holding a sportsman’s dinner with Kevin Keegan on November 16 at the Borough Hall. Tickets, £35 including a three-course meal, are available from Andy Wilson on 07760 886 715 or email andy.wilson@hufcsupporterstrust.org.uk
