Goal:
0-1: Yussuf (87, low corner hit striker and he diverted in from close range)
Bookings: Storer (52, foul); Cassidy (74, foul); Woods (87, foul); Hawkins (90, foul); Reckford (90, dissent)
Sending-off: Daly (90, foul and abusive language)
Referee: Joe Johnson (Manchester): Bewildering in the main as players and supporters spent the afternoon wondering what he was doing 4
Attendance: 2,782
Entertainment: 1/5
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):
7 Loach: Harsh to point finger of blame at him for the goal and was generally safe and solid throughout in difficult conditions;
5 Hawkins: Given a tough start from the off, stuck to his task and was left exposed later on when Newton was replaced
6 Laing: Allowed Yussuf in behind him in the second-half, but recovered and got back to put him off. Competed all afternoon
6 Magnay: Looks steady enough in the middle, but he’s needed back on the right side of defence where he’s more comfortable. Given an uneasy time of it in the first-half
5 Adams: Disciplined in getting forward, and played some decent balls down the flank for his team-mates;
4 Featherstone: Little influence in the middle and when he gives the ball away cheaply and doesn’t dictate Pools’ play they struggle
6 Hawkes: Accomplished display, uses the ball smartly and simply and unlucky not to score with a fine shot from distance which stuck the bar
5 Woods: Busy off the front two, got stuck in at times much to the opposition’s ire, but it didn’t really happen for him
6 Newton: Covered some ground, but not to the standards in and out of possession which he has reached in recent weeks. His discipline was missed when he was replaced;
5 Oates: Little chance to make an impact in front of goal, left isolated up front on too many occasions
7 Cassidy: Pools’ most powerful outfield player, chased, harassed and saw a lot of the ball – but needed to be more in the middle rather than pushing out wide.
Subs:
Donaldson (for Newton 69): The odd flash of positivity, but little effect on the game 5
Rodney (for Oates 69): Off the pace when he arrived, lost possession too easily 4
(not used): Catterick (gk), Munns, Owen.
SOLIHULL MOORS (4-1-3-2): O’Leary 5; Johnson 6, Daly 7, Williams 6, Reckford 7; Storer 6; Thomas 5 (Reid 75), Osborne 6 (Sterling-James 75), Carter 8; Hylton 6 (Carline 90), Yussuf 6. Subs (not used): Green, Lait.
MAN OF THE MATCH Darren Carter – Moors’ midfielder was always involved when his side attacked and delivered some quality set-pieces.
