Goal:
0-1: Southwell (90, latched onto a loose ball from a defensive mistake and made no mistake)
Bookings: Flowers (22, foul); Palmer (82, foul)
Referee: Joe Hull (Stockport): The odd petty call frustrated Pools, protecting the visiting keeper especially 5
Attendance: 2,674
Entertainment: 1/5
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):
6 Loach: Difficult conditions, but his handling was good and made some routine save when he had to without being stretched;
5 Hawkins: Some useful defensive headers when he covered in the middle, but got into a second-half tangle which presented the opposition with an open goal. Not quite as bad as Laing’s however
2 Laing: Cost Pools a point with the most basic of errors. Makes far too many mistakes and just can’t defend in the manner a National League centre-half has to
5 Magnay: Never really troubled in the middle of the back four, always seemed to have time on the ball and looked comfortable there
6 Adams: Continued his improvement, used the ball well with some raking balls down the flank and his positioning was again safer;
5 Hawkes: Busy and got involved. Popped up on the right at times and wasn’t confident enough to cross when he had the chance
5 Featherstone: Neat and tidy in front of the back four – the sort of performance you expect without really hurting the opposition
6 Woods: Some charges into the area without making the most of his openings, had a couple of chances but it didn’t happen in front of goal this time
6 Newton: Plenty of energy in the first-half especially, got through plenty of work in closing down and chasing the opposition down;
6 Cassidy: Put himself around and offers a physical threat up front, challenging the centre-halves and winning headers
4 Rodney: Looked to get involved and made himself available, but never got going in front of goal with some erratic moments in possession.
Subs:
Oates (for Rodney 63): Chased causes after his introduction in the second-half 5
Donaldson (for Hawkes 79)
(not used): Catterick (gk), Munns, Owen.
GUISELEY (4-4-1-1): Green 5; Nirennold 5, Palmer 6, Flowers 7, Holden 5; Hudson 5 (Hurst 46, 5), Purver 6, Hatfield 6, Roberts 5 (McFadzean 57, 5); Southwell 6, OIdejayo 5 (Luburd 70, 5). Subs (not used): Williams, Paley.
MAN OF THE MATCH HARRY Flowers – defended simply and effectively when he had to.
