JONATHAN FRANKS has made an instant impact back at Hartlepool United.

Two years after leaving when his contract expired and he headed for Ross County in the Scottish Premier League, the attacker is back at Victoria Park.

And with two goals in two games - and an assist to boot on Saturday – Franks couldn’t be more settled back in the North-East.

The Stockton native has impressed and settled into an attacking spot in a 4-3-3 formation in the last two games.

After joining Pools for pre-season training and earning himself a contract, he admitted: “I'm enjoying it.

"We didn't have the best of starts this season and while we have the quality on the dressing room, we were lacking something in the early games.

"This league is not just about quality, it's about the work-rate and the graft, the determination, I think the lads have got that we just had to adapt to the division.

"No matter what level you are playing you have to do the nasty side of the game, the stuff that isn't pretty.

"Last Monday at Guiseley it was like that for 90 minutes.

"On Saturday we went in with that mentality, but we also got the chance to play a bit of football and you could see the confidence the lads showed.

"It was disappointing to concede that goal at the end but we don't want to put a dampener on the day.

"We scored three goals and hopefully that's a sign of things to come."

Franks has slotted into a left-sided role in a front three and his direct running and workrate has fitted well into Harrison’s game plan.

The whole team pressed incessantly on Saturday and he admitted: "It's good when we have the ball and when we're out of possession we have to get back into the shape, whether you ae on the right or left.

"Everyone fills in for each other.

"We'll keep working on it and hopefully win some more games.

"We work on that a lot in training but it's about doing it at the right time, sometimes you don't want people going on their own, then the ball can get passed around you.

"You have to go as a unit and that worked this week, especially in the first half."

Boss Harrison said: “Franksy comes in for training with us and from the first week in training I wanted him tied up.

“Since he came in, he has been superb. He trained for two weeks and I knew within days I wanted him in, adding something different to what we have.

“He’s got between two men to cross for Connor (Simpson) and scored two important goals for us this week.’’

Franks was never a prolific scorer in his previous spell at Victoria Park, with 16 goals in 142 outings.

But with two goals in the space of seven days, including one with his head, are there more goals to come?

"I think so,’’ he said when asked if there was more onus on the attackers following the departure of Padraig Amond.

"We've obviously got a few attacking lads in the team.

"If we play like that then we've got a few lads in the side capable of scoring.

"It's a tough league and when you create some chances, like we did today, we've got to make sure we take them."
