LOUIS ROONEY made an instant impression at Hartlepool United, and the loan striker admits he had no qualms about moving from one end of the country to the other.

After scoring twice against Pools – his first a spectacular effort – in the final League Two game of last season, the striker has been kept in reserve by boss Derek Adams.

The 20-year-old striker has made only four substitute outings, but was keen to make up for that at the weekend for Pools.

After signing on loan on transfer deadline day, Rooney admitted he had no worries about moving.

"No, not at all. Any football in League Two is absolutely brilliant,’’ he said.

"I know this is a good club, I have been in contact with a few people who know Hartlepool United, like Peter Hartley, and my agent is from this area.

"I know it's a good club to be coming into and I could not say no to a move like this.

"I like to believe the way I play football will encourage the fans.

"It's always a bonus to have the supporters on your side.’’

Rooney went close on three occasions to scoring, and imrressed with his energy and workrate up front, supported by three attackers behind him in Lewis Alessandra, Padraig Amond and fellow loan debutant Andrew Nelson.

"I really did enjoy it,’’ he reflected.

"It was great to get a full 90 minutes under my belt, my last was at the very end of last season.

"Just to be out on the pitch again to be playing at this level is what I want to be doing.

"Being busy is my game, I like to run around, pass the ball, win it back.

"I was unlucky not to get a goal but I'll keep getting those shots off.

"I was hoping to score when I rounded the keeper, but that's just the way it goes sometimes when you see a player get back on the line to clear.

"Getting more opportunities is what we need to try to do and I'll try my best.’’
