JOE FRYER has moved to Hartlepool United on a half-season loan from Middlesbrough.
With Trevor Carson out for the season following shoulder surgery, new boss Dave Jones has moved to sign Fryer as back up to Adam Bartlett.
Fryer will be on the bench for Saturday's game at Newport.
Jones said of the Chester-le-Street born keeper: “Joe has come in, we need a keeper as Trevor is out injured and we only have Barts with young keepers underneath. We need him pushed and we need competition – without competition it’s lazy and the same.
“If you are playing well and being pushed you are on top of your game. Barts now has someone fighting for his place.''
