HARTLEPOOL United’s attacking options are set to be added to this month, with the return of Bradley Fewster.

The Middlesbrough forward signed on loan for the first-half of the season, but suffered a hamstring injury in the Checkatrade Trophy game with Sunderland on October 4.

He returned to Boro for treatment at Rockliffe Park, and now he is nearing fitness again Boro are ready to allow him to return to Pools for the second-half of the season.

Fewster is still to fully recover from the injury and is expected to be fit by the end of January to sign a second loan deal to keep him at Pools until May.

He made four substitute appearances for Pools and would have had a run in the side after Nathan Thomas was injured in the same month as Fewster. The 20-year-old spent time on loan at York last season.

There was no movement yesterday on the possibility of Gary Liddle rejoining Pools. Carlisle are expected to sign the midfielder from Chesterfield, but boss Keith Curle was coy on the suggestion.

"He's a player I've worked with before and know what he's about," Curle said. "At the minute I don’t think he's available and I don’t think Chesterfield want to lose him. If Gary Liddle is available then we are interested, as will be probably 95 per cent of other teams in this division."

Pools last week signed Sean Kavanagh on loan from Fulham and he impressed on his weekend debut against Grimsby.

The Irishman is at Pools until May and said: “It was hard going out there, playing 90 minutes and it’s my job to get through it. But it’s different to under 21s football, it’s more physical and means a lot more to everyone.

“You have to be able to handle yourself. Liam (Donnelly) has been a big help and he’s nice to have around the place.

“I’m here for the rest of the season now and it’s a good move for everyone, we all hope it works and gives me a chance to play some regular football.’’

Meanwhile, Chris Turner, the former Pools boss, has been appointed director of football at Chesterfield where he has been operating as chief executive. The Spireites sacked boss Danny Wilson on Sunday.
