WHILE Scott Harrison, won’t play again for Hartlepool United this season, another of the club’s centre-halves is looking for a quick response.

Harrison has suffered a broken metatarsal in training this week, which will mean he won’t kick a ball again until pre-season.

And Adam Jackson, constantly impressive on loan from Middlesbrough, want Pools to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat when they go to Oxford on Saturday.

After falling to a 2-1 home reverse to second-placed Accrington Stanley at Victoria Park, the Us, one point and one place below them are next up.

"We'll be looking to get a result at Oxford,’’ insisted Jackson.

"You want the challenge of playing against the good sides to see where you are as a player and as a team. It's a big challenge.

"We have to go there and start brighter than we did against Accrington. If we do we can get a result.”

"It's good the games are coming thick and fast and we have a chance to bounce back on Saturday.’’

After Oxford, Pools end their season with a home game with Portsmouth and a trip to Plymouth on the final day.

Boss Craig Hignett made five changes to his starting XI on Tuesday, but didn’t get the response he was after from those given an opportunity.

And Jackson admitted: "Obviously they are a good side and a tough game but we let ourselves down, in the first half especially by not getting tight enough.

"Good sides are not as good if you press them, but we let them play.

"We were disappointed with ourselves.

“When we had it at 1-1 we should have killed the game and given ourselves a chance to regroup.

“We were all over the place, we were too spread out and needed to be tighter.

“We did not have that shape we’ve had when we’ve been hard to beat.

“Instead of pressing as groups, we were pressing individually and that left gaps.’’

He added: “I don’t think there was a lot in it in the second half, if we’d have had a break, a bit of a rub of the green, we might have got a draw out of it.

“We had a lot of the ball, but we just did not have that killer pass or cross we didn’t quite have.

"We were disappointed with the first half but better in the second, just disappointed we never scored a goal.’’
