HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-3-3):
6 Carson: A new contract signed before the game – would have liked a clean sheet to mark it, but it was a fairly routine afternoon for the best keeper in League Two;
7 Magnay: Good run, charge and cross to create the winning goal. Looking the part at right-back now
7 Bates: Good return to the side, kept striker Oliver in check early on to stub out any York attacks
6 Jackson: The way he’s adapted to League Two while on loan from Boro has been very impressive – and this performance was no exception
5 Carroll: Back after a head knock last weekend, and didn’t play up to the level he has of late;
7 Hawkins: An integral part of the side with his movement and intelligence key to the three-man midfield system as he motors about the pitch
6 Featherstone: A bit crowded out this time as York stopped Pools’ playmaker from dictating the tempo of the game
8 WOODS: Like Hawkins, this midfield system where he has the freedom to roam and collect the ball where he wants is ideal for him. Too clever for the opposition by far;
6 Thomas: Scored, caused problems and got at the opposition in his usual manner on an emotional day for the attacker, who is still suffering from a chest infection
6 James: Went close with a diving header in the second-half, worked the line well and, as ever, never stopped working and grafting away
6 Duckworth: A very unfamiliar attacking role – and had four chances to score, denied by good Flinders saves twice.
Subs:
Oates (for Thomas 69)
Richards (for Carroll 76)
Blackford (for Duckworth 83)
(not used): Bartlett (gk), Walker, Bingham, Laurent.
YORK CITY (4-3-3): Flinders 8; Hendrie 5, Winfield 2, Bennett 5, Cameron 5; Dixon 5, Penn 6, Summerfield 6; Alessandra 6, Oliver 3 (Ilesanmi 37, 3), Fewster 4 (Riordan 82). Subs (not used): Carson, Thompson, Ingham (gk), McEvoy, Gilbraith.
MAN OF THE MATCH Michael Woods – two goals in a week for the returning midfielder and has have a key role to play in Pools’ system and way of playing
