CRAIG HIGNETT reiterated his target for the rest of the season to his Hartlepool United players.

After making it seven games without defeat after a 2-1 win over Mansfield, Pools go to Carlisle tomorrow night.

And Hignett, after taking 17 points from the last 21 on offer, said: "We'll go there with the same mindset to try to win the game and keep the run going.

"While we are on this run, let's see how far we can take it.

"I want everything now geared to next season.’’

He added: "I have my eye on Crawley, and Barnet, we're not too far away from them.

"Luton on 53 points? That might be a bridge too far. We only have one game in hand on them.

"Mansfield have 53 and we have two matches on them.

"But let's just look at the next one, see if we can catch them, then if we do, I'll look at the next one.

"I'm over the moon with the lads, my start in management could not have been any better really.

"That's all down to the lads and what we're trying to do.

"That's brilliant to see and rewarding for me to know that my ideas are working.

"I was always confident they would but actually seeing them work is fabulous."

And Hignett had praise for Michael Woods, after the substitute played a key role in the build-up to earning the second penalty.

He chased a lost cause to win possession before Carl Magnay was tripped and Hignett said: "He comes on and gives you unbelievable energy, he's clever with the ball.

"He's a good footballer, but like everyone else [who is not in the starting XI] he's had to wait and bide his time.

"He's got a dead leg, he got a right clattering at the end.

"He's someone pushing for a start, he does effect games, he did it at Leyton Orient.

"It was a good little cameo there and the same against Mansfield.

"He'll be one I'm thinking about for Tuesday but we'll have to wait and see how his leg settles.’’
