RONNIE Moore is hopeful of landing another striker to add to his Hartlepool United options.

After signing Ellis Harrison on loan from Bristol Rovers earlier this week, the Pools boss also has Billy Paynter closing in on a return to action after Achilles trouble.

While the captain won’t be involved tomorrow at Cambridge, despite scoring for the reserves in midweek on his comeback, Moore wants more – while admitting he could look to move some players out.

Moore said: "We missed out on a centre-midfielder who went somewhere else, which was disappointing for us, he's a big, strong lad.

"He would bring some physicality in there, something I think we haven't really got.

"He would have been a Aaron Tishbola-type figure, the players we have in there are a very similar.

"We have five or six midfielders but they are all of the same type of mould.

"We're looking to get a bit of height and physicality.

"We missed out on this lad unfortunately who has gone to another club in our division.

"It's disappointing, we thought we had half a chance of bringing him in

"We are looking everywhere.

"We started up front - we have one in [Ellis] and with a bit of luck we'll get another one in up top.

"It gives us variety of how we ;play up there."

He added at this morning's press conference: "A new signing? Possibly, but it's more likely to be next week. It shows how ambitious the club are and what we want to do.

"If the players here have not done it then we can shift them on. We can't wait for anyone, they have all had their opportunities.

"Not one can knock on my door and have a go and say 'you haven't given me this, that or the other'.’’

Pools beat Wycombe last weekend, but lost miserably at Accrington on Tuesday. Moore added: "If they do not play Saturday that's because they did not perform on Tuesday.

"If they don't perform and someone takes their shirt then they have no scope to complain.’’

Moore also has more injured players closing in on a return.

Michael Duckworth and Harry Worley could be back training the week after next, while Carl Magnay was on the training pitches this morning, although Saturday’s game will come too soon.
