HARTLEPOOL United have landed one player this week, and boss Ronnie Moore is out for more.

After having two bids rejected for strikers, the Pools boss hasn’t ruled out making improved offers for his targets.

One is a League One striker, while the other is understood to be playing in the Conference.

Chairman Gary Coxall has backed his manager in the transfer market and has given Moore funds to play with following a lucrative FA Cup run, which was ended last weekend by Derby.

“We are looking, we are knocking on all doors possible,’’ admitted Moore “There’s 12 strikers we have asked for – some don’t want to come all this way to the North-East and want to stay where they are. We’ve had two bids for players turned down at the moment, so we keep looking and maybe go back in for them with a better offer.

“We are trying, it’s a matter of one of the doors opening.’’

Nathan Thomas moved from Mansfield this week, six weeks after the left-winger tormented Pools for the Stags at Field Mill.

Stockton-born, the former Sunderland prospect is in the squad for tomorrow’s game with Wycombe and Moore said: “Nathan has come in and we know a lot about him. We’ve seen him before and he’s only 21. He’s quick, left-footed and direct. He can get the crowd going, will run at people and put balls in the box. I’m looking forward to having many good years from him.

“We are well pleased to have him in and look forward to seeing a lot from him.’’

Pools have not played a League Two game since December 19, with three games postponed and Moore said: “With us not playing we have looked at players first-hand, it was good to get out and watch games, see players in and around the non-league scene and it opened our eyes a bit. There’s a few gems out there and at this time we have had a bid for one non-league level not accepted at the moment.’’

Meanwhile, Gareth Ainsworth, manager of tomorrow’s opponents, insists his players will be fully focused on Pools.

The Chairboys drew with Aston Villa in the FA Cup last weekend and have a replay at Villa Park to think about next week.

But Ainsworth said: "Hartlepool away is as big as Aston Villa away, probably bigger.

“I know people will say it's not, but consistency over 46 games is what gets you success and I want our consistency to be apparent at Hartlepool.

"I am not about to let some cup game get into the lads' heads, this is what I signed them for, this is their bread and butter. It's all about me focusing on Hartlepool and making sure every player is focused on the league.’’

Pools’ trip to Carlisle United at Brunton Park has now been put back to Tuesday, April 5. Ronnie Moore’s men were due to travel to Cumbria over Christmas but the game was postponed after flooding in the area and originally re-scheduled for February.

However, following a request from Carlisle to alter the fixture, Pools will now make the trip on Tuesday 5th April (7.45pm kick-off) instead.

The Cumbrians yesterday announced two other new rearranged dates and club secretary Sarah McKnight said: "We'd like to thank the Football League and all of the other clubs involved for their co-operation and understanding with these fixture rearrangements.

"We'd particularly like to thank Hartlepool who have agreed, at our request, to move our home fixture for a second time back to the later April date.

"Our reasoning behind that is that it is going to be one of our biggest fixtures of the season and we want as many facilities as possible back up and running following the devastating effects of Storm Desmond.’’
