Goals:

0-1: Pritchard (14, slotted in from eight yards, after Pools failed to clear or intercept an Orient move into the area)

1-1: Oyenuga pen (20, confidently netted down the middle, following a penalty award for handball)

2-1: Gray (70, took a pass from Manron, cut inside and while his 25-yard shot may have been defelcted, it was his goal)

3-1: Gray (85, Naismith’s pass inside the defence was perfect for the attacking midfielder and his low finish found the corner)

Booking: James (55, foul)

Referee: Paul Tierney (Accrington): Good spot for the handball which brought the penalty, but some of his other decisions were a bit strange at times 6

Attendance: 3,785

Entertainment: 4/5

HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):

8 Carson: Made three superb saves, one especially good to keep Pools level at 1-1 when he instinctively stuck out an arm to deny a certain goal

7 Duckworth: On top of his game, firm defensively, and linked up well going forward before he was forced out with a bout of cramp

8 Bates: He’s been superb at the heart of the back four in the last three games and this was his best performance in a Pools shirt. Read the game well and used his experience

7 Jackson: Looked a lot more at ease from start to finish this week, never flustered and formed a good partnership with Bates

6 Carroll: Came into the game more the longer the game went on. Too many crosses came over from his flank, with Clohessy getting forward;

7 Oyenuga: No messing about with the penalty and there’s a lot of potential with his performances. Will get better the more games he plays

8 MAGNAY: How Pools have missed him in midfield. Brings an energy and a simplicity to the engine room

7 Gray: His second goal of the afternoon was a fine effort and his runs from deep to support the strikers – and get beyond them – has added so much to Pools’ midfield

7 Naismith: Delightful pass for Pools’ third goal. Got better as the game progressed and showed some neat footwork and a willingness to get involved on his debut;

6 Fenwick: Worked away, close to connecting with a first-half header, and linked up well at times with Mandron

7 Mandron: Like Fenwick, constantly on the move and teed up Gray for the second goal. A run in the side at Victoria Park could see his potential finally unlocked.

Subs:

Oates (for Oyenuga 69): Introduced to try and stop Clohessy ploughing ahead and did what was asked 6

Harrison (for Duckworth 77)

Featherstone (for Fenwick 83)

(not used): Bartlett (gk), Bingham, Woods, Jones.

LEYTON ORIENT (4-4-2): Grainger 5; Clohessy 7, Dunne 5(Turgott 86), Baudry 6, Shaw 6; Marquis 6, James 7, Payne 6, Pritchard 5 (Kashket 75); Simpson 6, Palmer 6. Subs (not used): Sargeant, Moncur, Semedo.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Carl Magnay – a great return to the side and how he enjoyed it. Made a big impression in a mobile midfield
