RONNIE Moore yesterday made two new loan signings. And, as well as Mikael Mandron from Sunderland and Kai Naismith, his Hartlepool United ranks will be boosted by the return of one of his key players.

Carl Magnay will also be in the side tomorrow. He’s only played one full game since September 5, and there’s a genuine feeling of injustice lingering.

There’s little doubt Magnay has been missed, and he is desperate to get back playing football again.

He will start in central midfield, ready to return after a three-game ban for violent conduct and a nonsensical misconduct charge which brought an additional six-game suspension, after he was found guilty of spitting at a Wycombe Wanderers follower.

“Carl played on Tuesday in a reserve game and has trained hard all the time, but it’s about playing games and he will be huffing and puffing after an hour,’’ mused Pools boss Ronnie Moore. “Does he start, or put him on as a sub? I think you start with your best team – or at least your best team in form too.

“Carl has done well from the start of the season, he’s not one who hasn’t done well. To be fair to him he’s played in a couple of positions too. He’s happy there now in central midfield and we have options in there, all fit and available.

“He had a reserve game at Doncaster. Sometimes it’s hard to make those decisions and calls. I know what I’m going to do with the team, but wait and see.’’

Striker Mandron has moved from Sunderland. He has long been courted by previous Pools managers and was watched by Pools chief scout Ian Moore while playing for the Black Cats Under-21s in European competition in midweek.

Naismith, a winger capable of operating on either flank, started his career in Scotland with Rangers and moved to Portsmouth in the summer on a three-year deal after leaving Accrington.

A thigh injury on the eve of the season has restricted him to only six appearances, two of them starts.

Pools take on Orient tomorrow, the first in a run of testing fixtures against play-off and promotion contenders.

Amid a poor run of form and results, Moore accepts that his side will have to up their game from tomorrow onwards.

After Orient, Mansfield, Accrington and Oxford comes the televised FA Cup tie at Salford City.

Moore said: “Look at the next seven games, they are against top sides and then Salford in the cup – big games, times you want to be a footballer.

“This game is on TV and we can’t play like we did on Saturday. The last time I was on TV live we got beat 5-0 and I was sacked at Rotherham! We have to show what we can do and show some confidence, that win last week can make you.

“Last season we struggled, we went to Morecambe and won somehow. How I don’t know. They had deflections, a hundred shots to our three and we won 1-0. It set us off and now can the Cheltenham game do that too.’’

Last weekend’s win over Cheltenham came thanks to a goal from Kudos Oyenuga. The winger has yet to make an impression at Victoria Park, but is set for an extended run in the side to prove his worth, while there’s extra competition in there with the arrival of Naismith.

Moore said: “Kudus scored and there’s more to come from him – that’s the nature of the beast as a winger. He has quality and we ask for 30 minutes of it to win a game.

“The only way you find out about players is to throw them in. Get rid of that stage-fright, show confidence. We will leave him in and hopefully he will progress.’’

Tomorrow’s opponents had a healthy win over non league opponents last week and Moore said: “Orient are doing well and they won 6-1 in the FA Cup. They have a good squad, good strikers and Dean Cox who is a fantastic player. You need to look after them. It’s a tough one for a TV game.

“We are still looking for extras and always looking for more. Some players we brought in haven’t progressed how we wanted to so they may need a rest. Adam Jackson did well last week, as did Jake Carroll at times and there’s more to come, but you don’t want five on loan, you want your own team but if it improves us then we have to look to freshen up.’’

Tomorrow’s game kicks-off at 12.15pm and admission has been reduced to £10 and £5 concessions.
