Goals:
1-0: Kennedy (18, free-kick from far out on the touchline took one bounce in the penalty area and went in)
2-0: Taylor (29, sweeping volley after Pools failed to defend their box with any authority)
Bookings: Bookings: Carroll (23, foul); Fenwick (84, foul)
Referee: Lee Collins (Woking): Gave the Dons a soft penalty, didn’t give Pools a clearer one 4
Attendance: 3868
Entertainment: 2/5
AFC WIMBLEDON (4-4-2): Wilson 5; Fuller 7, Robinson 6, Osborne 6, Meades 6; Francomb 5, Reeves 6 (Toonga 90), Bulman 7, Kennedy 7; Taylor 7 (Elliott 83), Azeez 6 (Akinfenwa 60, 7). Subs (not used): McDonnell (gk), Sweeney, Gallagher, Kaja.
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):
9 Carson: Save after save after second-half save ensured Pools weren’t humiliated;
6 Duckworth: A steady return to the starting XI after a frustrating spell out with hamstring trouble
7 Bates: Showed his determination in wanting to defend and put his body on the line. Pick of the back four
4 Okuonghae: Didn’t last long as he went off with a foot injury. Didn’t start well and wasn’t anything like the player from his debut. Slack header brought second goal
3 Jones: Needless foul brought a free-kick for the first goal, moved into the middle of the back four and often needed Bates to bail him out;
5 Oates: After a bright and lively spell of late, this was a quiet outing on the right flank – never given any space to attack or use his pace to get at the back four
4 Featherstone: His game has suffered of late. Needs to get back to being the simple and effective deep holding midfielder he was last season
4 Woods: Game largely passed him by, passes didn’t come off as he tried to create openings in and around the penalty area
3 Carroll: Looks devoid of confidence and struggled when he was moved to left back. Exposed on too many occasions;
4 Paynter: Had a bit of a running battle with Robinson in the second-half, but never threatened to get the better of him in the game
4 Bingham: Even when it’s not going for him, his movement and pace normally never wavers – but this time he was too quiet and caused no problems.
Subs:
Oyenuga (for Okuonghae 36): Given an hour on the left wing, and while he kept trying, he didn’t create much 5
Fenwick (for Bingham 67): Added some strength to the front line with his honesty and effort 6
Banton (for Paynter 86)
(not used): Bartlett (gk), Walker, Nelson-Addy, Smith.
MAN OF THE MATCH TREVOR Carson – the game’s busiest performer by some distance
