Goals:
1-0: Harrison (6, cracked in a shot on the turn from a deep corner)
1-1: Ibehre (57, free header from close range from a left-sided cross)
2-1: Paynter pen (70, confidently slotted in high)
2-2: Miller (76, allowed to check back and send a curling effort high into the net from the left)
2-3: Ibehre (85, six-yard tap in from a low Grainger cross)
Bookings: Miller (41, foul); Rigg (56, foul); Ibehre (61, foul); Archibald-Henville (68, foul)
Referee: Andy Haines (Sunderland): Some of his decisions were simply wrong – not helped at all by the assistant on the Mill House side 4
Attendance: 4,935
Entertainment: 5/5
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-3-3):
6 Bartlett: Some brave and solid first-half blocks and stops and was a penalty area presence. Perhaps disappointed with the second goal;
4 Duckworth: He’s left open and a bit exposed in a 4-3-3 system and, while he needs to offer more width, he’s also the sole line of defence on the right
6 Harrison: Had plenty of headers to go far and won his share, but left Ibehre alone for his two goals
5 Boyce: Doesn’t attack the ball with the same aggression as Harrison and looked a bit uneasy in the air at times
4 Carroll: Failed to do the basics and allowed two goals to come from his area in the second half with poor defending;
7 Magnay: Showed how much he was missed when he went off at the break. Pools struggled without his ability to break up play and move the ball on
5 Featherstone: Failed to do the job needed in the second half in protecting the back four in Magnay’s absence
5 Woods: Some neat touches in the first-half, but another who struggled after the break to get a grip of the game when it was needed;
6 Oates: Started promisingly and forced the visiting wide men on the back foot with his effort
5 Paynter: Enjoyed scoring and proving a point, but the hamstring injury that affected him last week clearly held him back from playing at full pelt
8 BINGHAM: Always a lively threat and danger and his first-half trickery on the edge of the area deserved better than hitting a post.
Subs:
Nelson-Addy (for Magnay 46): Looked lost in midfield, and his inexperience showed. Questionable roles in both Carlisle second-half goals 3
Fenwick (for Oates 63): Could have put himself about more than he did and will be massively disappointed to lose the ball in the manner he did for the third goal 5
(not used): Denton (gk), Worley, Oyenuga, Jones, Smith.
CARLISLE UNITED (3-1-4-2): Gillespie 5; Miller 7, Raynes 6, Archibald-Henville 7; JOYCE 8; McQueen 4 (Thompson 77), Kennedy 6, Hery 7 (Dicker 86), Grainger 7; Rigg 4 (Asamoah 68, 4), Ibehre 7. Subs (not used): Hanford (gk), Brough, Sweeney, Dicker, Balanta.
MAN OF THE MATCH Luke Joyce – sitting in front of the back three he kept it simple and kept the Cumbrians going.
