TWO nights, two games, two wins. Nine goals scored, none conceded. Pre-season has started somewhat comfortably for Hartlepool United.

After a 7-0 win at Billingham Town on Monday night, Pools last night won 2-0 at Harrogate RA, the Evo-Stik North side.

Pools followed Monday’s path and completely changed their side at the interval, such are the options available to Ronnie Moore after a busy summer, with three additional trialists appearing the in second half alongside Stuart Parnaby.

The former Middlesbrough man is training with Pools, despite being released at the end of last season.

Pools, playing 3-5-2 throughout, took the lead early on when Lewis Hawkins skipped through the home defence and neatly clipped home.

New winger Kudus Oyenuga saw plenty of first-half ball and improved as his outing went on.

Pools got a second when Scott Fenwick was played in by Parnaby and neatly lobbed the keeper.

On-trial Johnny Giles was denied by a fine save from home goalkeeper Tom Goodwin. Sam Collins, Pools’ assistant boss, was happy with the run out.

He said: “It was OK at times, similar to Monday. We didn’t keep the ball well enough, too many wrong passes, but it will come. We work every day. We’ve trained both days we’ve played and we are trying to do the right things all the time.

“It’ll come, it’ll come with games. Playing 3-5-2 you can keep the ball, moved it around and it’ll open up.

“Our strikers both scored tonight and we could have had more too. A clean sheet and we won.

“There’s a few knocks tonight, Harry Worley felt his calf a bit, but there’s plenty of bodies.

“We’ve got good options to change things around. Scott Harrison and Carl Magnay weren’t involved, there’s Michael Woods to come back.

“Training has been good and hard and now it’s about systems and how we are going to play.’’

Pools are next in action at Whitby on Friday and Spennymoor the following day.
