HARRY WORLEY yesterday signed up for Ronnie Moore’s Hartlepool United revolution – the fourth new signing of the summer.

And Moore could add another five to his ranks before the season starts.

After signing Rhys Oates, Rakish Bingham and Carl Magnay, Worley bolstered the defence after signing following his release from Stevenage.

Moore said: “It’s always difficult when you’re trying to chop and change your squad but we’ve already made some decent progress with four new players through the door so I would like to thank the chairman and the owners for their help on that front.

“We’d like to try and get seven, eight or nine in if we can and the work is still going on.’’

Worley also appeared on trial at Pools under Chris Turner in 2009 while a Leicester City player and later spent three years at Oxford before signing for Newport and then Stevenage.

Magnay, Worley and Michael Woods have all been team-mates before – in Brendan Rodgers’ Chelsea reserve side in 2007.

Woods is currently injured, after suffering a double broken leg in February against Wimbledon, but the attacking midfielder is on course to return for pre-season training.

Worley was also injured last season. He started the season by facing Pools on the opening day at Stevenage, but a week later suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and only returned to the side for the final league game of the campaign.

Now fit and over his problems, the powerful centre-half will join up with his new team-mates at the end of the month.

With Magnay and Worley arriving, the likelihood of Neil Austin staying at Victoria Park has diminished.

The right-back is one of four players offered reduced terms, with the futures of Austin, Scott Flinders, Matthew Bates or Jonathan Franks yet to be decided.

Bates is the only one of the four understood to be considering signing. Scunthorpe are keen on Franks and Pools’ interest in Trevor Carson indicates Flinders will move on.

The Cheltenham Town goalkeeper, who used to be with Sunderland, wants to return to the North-East and is out to leave the Robins following their relegation to the Conference.

However, he is under contract at Whaddon Road for a further year and will only be allowed to leave if a suitable agreement can be reached.

Pools have made an approach, which was rejected by Robins’ officials and chairman Paul Baker said: "The situation with Trevor is about geography and the status of where we are, because he has a young family.

"He has ambitions to play for Northern Ireland, and has been called up to their squad in the last month.

"But I have spoken to him and he appreciates that if a move doesn't materialise, then he will be playing for Cheltenham Town next season.

"He is contracted to the club and I for one would be happy to see him play for us next season and the fans will be as well."

Carson is on duty with the Northern Ireland squad ahead of Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier with Romania at Windsor Park.

Baker added: "We have had a bit of interest in Trevor from a couple of clubs, but the offers haven't been acceptable to us as a club.’’
