FORMER Newcastle and Carlisle goalkeeper Tony Caig has been added to Ronnie Moore’s coaching staff at Hartlepool United.

The 41-year-old has decided to leave Brunton Park to start work as the keeper coach under Moore at Pools after discussions with the manager and his assistant, Sam Collins.

Caig told the club’s website: “The club went on an unbelievable run last season to get themselves out of trouble after looking dead and buried and you don’t go on runs like that unless you have got everyone pulling together, staff, players and the club as a whole and getting the fans behind you.

“It all came together at the right time and now if we can build on that who knows where it might take us. If the gaffer can bring in the players he wants to, along with the ones already here, we should have a pretty good chance of being competitive next season.”

Caig - who was at Newcastle between 2003 and 2006 - was at Carlisle for five years after returning to the club in 2010. He is the latest part of Moore’s restructuring.

Moore has added three new players to his squad, with more expected to follow. Gateshead-born defender Carl Magnay became the latest squad addition on Monday when he agreed to move from Grimsby Town.
