Goal: 1-0: Adams (75, bundled in from close range after Bury broke through midfield and ran across the defence)
Bookings: Austin (47, foul); Rose (54, unsporting behaviour)
Referee: Chris Sarginson (Stoke): Seemed to annoy the home support in the second half, but generally sound 7
Attendance: 3,172
Entertainment: 3/5
BURY (4-4-2): Pope 3; Riley 5, Cameron 7, El Abd 7, Hussey 7; Mayor 6, Tutte 7, Etuhu 6, Adams 6 (C Jones 59, 5); Rose 5 (Hope 69, 5), Nardiello 6 (Sedgwick 81). Subs (not used): McNulty, O’ Brien, Lainton, Dudley.
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):
8 Flinders: Made plenty of important saves to keep Pools in the game throughout;
6 Duckworth: Probably his most solid defensive performance, disciplined and firm on the right
7 Harrison: Developing into a real centre-half of some potential – strong and dominant in the air
6 Mirfin: One game left of his loan spell and Pools will be desperate to keep him for his experience and steadying influence
5 Austin: Lunged in on Adams and was booked, didn’t do much wrong, but treaded water chasing Mayor for the goal;
5 Compton: Few balls pumped into the area without much thought and didn’t really pick his man out
5 Woods: Set up Morgan for early chance, but didn’t exert much influence on the game against a strong Bury midfield
5 Tshibola: Tried to do his job in the engine room and got about, but Pools were always second best in there
5 Franks: Like Compton on the opposite flank, kept going but when Pools don’t have much of a penalty area presence, it’s difficult;
4 Morgan: Early miss was poor, should have scored, and then his woeful mistake gifted Bury possession to score.
7 Smith: Encouraging and lively debut for the striker. Put himself about, chased and harassed the back four.
Subs:
Walker (for Tshibola 81)
J Jones (for Franks 82)
Harewood (for Morgan 81)
(not used): Maxted (gk), Featherstone, Richards, D Jones.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Scott Flinders – always alert, well positioned to keep out Bury’s efforts
