HARTLEPOOL UNITED lost for the 20th time this season, going down 1-0 at Bury thanks to a goal all of their own making.

Pools defended well against the Shakers, were organised throughout and looked set for a promising ending to the game.

But, with 15 minutes remaining, striker Marvin Morgan made an horrendous mistake, which cost Pools dearly.

Under little to no pressure, he laid the ball off on the halfway line, but played it straight to home midfielder Danny Mayor.

With the Pools players caught out, Mayor ran into the area without a challenge and when the ball rolled across goal after Scott Flinders saved, Andrew Tutte bundled in from close range.

Until that point, Pools had been in the game, giving the Shakers plenty to think about.

Morgan should have put Pools ahead after five minutes.

Michael Woods won possession and fed the striker, but he put his finish too close to keeper Nick Pope who blocked and Morgan wasted the rebound.

It was Pools’ best chance of the game, while Connor Smith, on his first start, impressed with his honesty and endeavour.

At the other end, Scott Flinders saved well from a goalbound Nathan Cameron header, one of many fine saves from the Pools’ keeper.
