RONNIE MOORE enjoyed a busy transfer deadline day, but his work isn’t over yet.

The Hartlepool United boss landed Marvin Morgan and David Mirfin on Monday, while also signing Scott Harrison permanently and extending Nicky Featherstone’s deal until the end of the season.

While there’s disappointment he lost striker Rakish Bingham, who was recalled by Mansfield, the Pools boss only has to wait another week to make more moves.

The emergency loan window allows Football League teams to sign players on a temporary basis and Moore, ahead of tomorrow’s game at Portsmouth, said: "I hope we will be doing more business, I certainly hope so.

"We have scope to bring a few in, getting Scott in full-time was a massive bonus and freed up another loan space.

"It depends what shape we go with, do we bring wingers in with a bit of pace or another striker?

"It is great for me because I can play three at the back now, which I couldn’t before.

"I am a fan of 4-4-2 at home but some think that is dinosaur days and think you should be able to adjust.

"We have the players now to adjust to any system we need them to.’’

Moore has long hinted at playing 3-5-2 and, with tomorrow’s opposition lining up that way, there’s every chance Pools could be different at Fratton Park to normal.

“Someone who played last weekend, who played well, may have to miss out. As a manager you have to pick a team to win a game away from home and if it means disappointing someone, then you have to do it.

“It’s tempting to stick with it, but you have to look at it all and how we play, how they play.

“We have options to change the way we play. It’s been a difficult week in training with the weather, but we have players in now so we can play 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-3-3 if we want to and match up.

“We couldn’t do that six weeks ago.’’

Mansfield dropped to second bottom last weekend and, with the Stags able to recall Bingham before his loan turned into a deal extended to the end of the season, Moore admitted it was no shock to lose the front man.

He said: "Bings hadn't scored the goals we thought he might have done but he gives us a breather by chasing lost causes.

"I was a bit disappointed but when I saw they had dropped into the bottom two.

"It is common sense, if you are manager at Mansfield and you let your striker go to the team below you and he scores umpteen goals then you are asking for trouble.

"That is one of the other reasons we have tried to get somebody in."

Pools are still without midfielder Tommy Miller, who has been out of action with a calf injury since October, but he is closing in on a return after having specialist treatment at St George’s Park last week.

Moore said: "Tommy hasn't trained with the first-team yet.

"He is hoping for a session on Monday but that is all governed by Buster (Gallagher, physio).

"If he comes back too early then that is another six weeks and his season over. We have to be careful."
