Goals
1-0: Mangan (50, took possession, turned Harrison too easily and clipped his finish past Flinders)
2-0: Collins (cross in from the right, swopped passes with Mangan and finished)
3-0: Mangan (68, ball in from the left, free header glanced in)
Bookings: Harewood (43, foul); Austin (52, foul)
Referee: Seb Stocksbridge (Gateshead): Looked like he frustrated the home side at times as Pools tackled and competed, but nothing to concern anyone 7
Attendance: 4,601
Entertainment: 2/5
SHREWSBURY TOWN (3-5-2): Leutwiler 6; Grandison 6, Ellis 7, Goldson 6; Gayle 6, Wesolowski 5 (Grant 17, 7), Woods 7, Lawrence 6, Demetirou 6; Collins 6 (Vernon 74), MANGAN 8 (Akpa Akpro 74). Subs (not used): Halstead (gk), Vincent, Clark, Randall.
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2):
6 Flinders:Was commanding in his area in the first half, but beaten too easily for the opening goal from close range;
5 Duckworth: He’s under the spotlight with Moore’s comments about his full backs and he is trying to keep himself pegged back more than before
6 Harrison: Firm and solid defending in the first-half, same as last week. But turned and beaten for the opening goal without getting close to Mangan
6 Jones: Did a job in the middle, without being as solid or effective as he has been in recent weeks
5 Austin: Nature of the second goal when he and Compton were opened up too easily wasn’t very smart;
5 Compton: Looked like he was going to be lively in the opening half and did get involved, but Moore wants so much more
5 Woods: A passenger for a lot of the game, didn’t make much impact against the Shrews’ three-man central midfielders
6 Tshibola: Tried to be busy in midfield, and roamed around in his languid style while exerting some influence
5 Franks: Didn’t get many openings to deliver crosses from wide and influence was negligible;
4 Harewood: Back in the side, but didn’t make any impression. Slow and sluggish after three games out suspended and taken off
5 Bingham: The game never opened up for him to try and use his pace and more often than not was checked tightly by the home defenders.
Subs:
Fenwick (for Harewood 69): Will count himself unfortunate to be dropped for Harewood 5
Hawkins (for Compton 73)
(not used): Bates, Walker, Maxted (gk), Featherstone, Smith.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Andy Mangan – took his goals well and set up one for his strike partner too
