MATTY DOLAN’S loan spell at Hartlepool United has been cut short. The midfielder, on loan from Bradford, pulled up in the warm-up on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

He had to be carried off the pitch and Nicky Featherstone was a late replacement.

After two performances for his home-town club, his loan deal is over.

Boss Ronnie Moore said: “Matty has done his hamstring, six weeks so he goes back. What a good start that is – you get organised and ready to play and he was on the set-plays as well.’’

One loanee to impress on Saturday was Joe Ironside, signed by former boss Paul Murray from Sheffield United.

On his first start he scored and caused problems for the visiting back four all afternoon.

“We didn't give them a minute's peace and that is part of my game,’’ admitted the son of former Middlesbrough and Scarborough goalkeeper Ian Ironside.

"I didn't want to give them any respite and it went okay in the end.

"I made eye contact with Sidney and he played it across and it just bounced up in front of me.

"I thought to myself I am going to take this early, the keeper wasn't set and luckily it went in.

"I wasn't thinking about it too much, I just wanted to crack it.

"It was my first football league goal, it was a brilliant feeling and great to be able to do it in front of the Hartlepool fans.

"I will never forget that.

"I'd said to Ozzy, who I travel in with, if I score I was running towards him.

"I forgot in the emotion but gave him a hug afterwards!’’
