IT was a family affair for Scott Fenwick at the weekend. As he made his introduction as a professional football, the former Northern League striker was watched by those close to him.

His second-half appearance as Pools went down to Southend didn’t quite go to plan, but Fenwick is confident in his own ability to make the most of his opportunity.

"I loved the buzz of getting on and seeing my name on the back of the shirt but it doesn't matter when you lose,’’ he admitted.

"I hate getting beat, no matter what standard I play at.

"I had my mum, dad, auntie, nana and brother in the stand, they travelled down early hours and there is a large minibus coming down next week for York City.

"The whole experience has been brilliant, driving down on Friday, staying in the hotel and singing my initiation song.

"I sang Wonderwall by Oasis - the second time I have sung it this season. I did it pre-season at Dunston as well but I was a bit more nervous in front of the experience professionals!’’

Murray moved for the frontman after he also caught the eye of Sheffield United, Chesterfield and Fleetwood this season.

And Fenwick admitted: "I have areas to work on and need to get my fitness up to this standard but I am confident I can perform.

"I've had a taste for it now and I want more.

"I had injuries when I was a kid and getting released but I never gave up and I am here now."
