Darlington release six
 |
| Released: Julian Joachim |
DARLINGTON manager Dave Penney has told six more players they no longer have a future at the club.
Clark Keltie, Micky Cummins, Julian Joachim, Neil Wainwright, Scott Wiseman and Shaun Reay have been told their contracts will not be renewed.
On Tuesday, Penney released Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu, John Brackstone and Kevin Burgess.
Quakers had a one-year option on club record signing Julian Joachim, but Penney has decided not to take it up.
Keltie, who scored in Darlington's play-off defeat at Rochdale on Saturday, has several offers elsewhere, with rivals Hartlepool United believed to be one of the teams interested in signing the midfielder.
Fans' favourite Wainwright struggled to hold down a regular first-team place under Penney last season and he was loaned out to Mansfield Town, before returning to Darlington towards the end of the campaign.
Cummins and Wiseman were involved in Darlington's play-off games, but the pair will now move on.

What a joke this is!
Joachim, Keltie and Cummins were three of our best players and Wiseman impressed in the last few weeks of the season.
Where's the logic in releasing them?
After finishing sixth last season, despite all the injuries, and two good performances in the play-offs, I was full of hope for next year. Get the injured players back, including Abbott (who could score 25 goals), sign a couple more players in the summer and I might have backed us for the title. Think I'll be keeping my money in my pocket now.
Either Peneny has a few big signings lined up, more likely in my opinion, the chairman has drastically cut his budget.
Recently the chairman has talked of his hopes for the youth system which, in other words, would be a cheaper way of recruiting new players.
Looks like it's going to be the summer of 2000 all over again. George Reynolds Mk II.
Wherever Keltie goes, even if it's Hartlepool, I hope he does really well for himself, that'd be one way to show the Darlington boo-boys how much they know about football - ie, nothing.
The amount some Darlington 'fans' know about football you could write on a peanut.
It's not all bad news though as I see the so-called 'fans favourite' Neil Wainwright has got the axe too. ****.
Those same boo-boys, by the way, will be the ones crying about Wainshite leaving. The man with no skill, the Forest Gump of football. So what he's full of running, we can all do that! Has never been able to kick a football, always a fundamental problem when you're meant to be a footballer.

Would have kept Cummins and Wiseman, but as for the rest, not too bothered. Wiseman is a better alternative at full-back than Valentine. Wainwright and Keltie have been at the club for an age and the decision to release them is the right one as far as i'm concerned.

I'm very surprised too about Joachim being released. However, I have full faith in Penney and I'm sure he knows what he's doing. We should be getting behind him and the club, not slagging of his decisions. I am sure he will bring in some decent signings and look forward to the forthcoming weeks.
Already seriously considering a season ticket. COME ON DARLO!

the logic behind releasing them is we didnt achieve our goal of promotion and another attempt carrying dead-wood is not what anybody wants, fresh players with a real motivated start to the season not a team of non-achievers, joachim has been great and i thought cummins was ok, but as i say if you carry too many players at a second attempt at promotion it all becomes a bit stale ! also gonna go for a season ticket in 10 years supporting darlo DP needs the support and GH need some reward from everyone in and around darlington !! come on darlo!

If the club is looking to bring players through the youth team.. why are we letting Reay go? he is a product of the youth team and is meant to be promising. Surely thats a bit contradictry. The only reason i can think joachim is not staying is because i imagine he is on relatively high wages and penney probably feels he can find someone whos is better value for money(not sure if i agree). glad to see wainwright go, however much i admire his determination, you've got to be realistic, hes getting old, and never has had much skill. Im not suprised to see keltie and cummins go, although id of liked to see them stay. Dont think penney rates them highly. Anyone know how long blundell had a contract at the club for, because in my opinion he is in exactly the same mould as wainwright, great determination but very little skill. Hope he goes aswell.

I feel Wiseman should have been given a longer run and I'm sure he may have been good for the future. However,I think we should thank all the lads for their service and wish them all the best for the future.

Hmm well i've said all season we were weak in midfield so got to agree with Keltie and Cummins. For me personally Joachim was looking tired age catches us all up. Wainwright well enough said gives 110% but thats about it. Wiseman I to think should have been given chance to prove himself. The rest well dead wood would be a good assesment. Lets all wait and see who comes in and hopefully with a strong midfield and a fully fit Pav we could be looking at that elusive automatic promotion.

Certainly 1 or 2 surprises in there but I do believe some new faces will brighten up the squad and I am sure Penney already has future signings lined up. I doubt we would have got another season out of JJ and why do we have such a big squad anyway? During the ongoing injury crisis we just kept getting more loan players.
As for Blundell, his absence is probably a major factor in us falling short at the end of the season - we have missed his hard work and ability to close defenders down - another Robbie Painter in my opinion.
I certainly wish all the departing players the very best and thank them for their contribution.

Not sure if i agree with you about blundell, he's a bit like wainwright in my opinion.
