Whelan starts for Darlington

Striker Noel Whelan is a surprise inclusion in the Darlington team for today's game with Barnet.

Since signing in October the veteran former Middlesbrough forward has made been struggling with a hamstring injury.

Both of his two appearances have been aborted due to injury, so today he aims to make it third time lucky against the Bees.

Whelan is one of three changes to the Darlington side which lost 2-0 at Northampton last week. Recalled is Ross Chisholm while winger Chris Moore makes his first start. Dropped are Mor Diop, Gary Dempsey and Curtis Main.

Due to heavy rain this morning the game was in doubt and only received the go-ahead after an inspection by referee Chris Sarginson.

Darlington (4-4-2): Redmond; Madden, White, Miller, Milne; Moore, G Smith, Waite, Chisholm; Purcell, Whelan. Subs: Liversedge (gk), Gray, Main, Groves, Mulligan, McReady, Diop

Barnet (4-4-2): Cole; Devera, Breen, Kamdjo, Lockwood; Adomah, M Hyde, Hughes, Livermore; Jarrett; O'Flynn. Subs: Gillett, Deverdics, O'Neill, J Hyde, Wright, Carpenter (gk), Upson

Referee: Chris Sarginson

Well the improvement continues we only lost by one today. But the excuse now is that the manager hasn't had a pre season with the players to try out tactics. Forget the fact that he has had 23 games and used over 25 of his own players. Don't we practice free kicks and strategy during the week in training.
Sorry but I think the wrong man is in charge and if this is an improving squad then god help us.
