Todd making good progress at Darlington

COLIN TODD feels he is making good progress as guides crisis-hit Darlington through a traumatic summer.

While attempting to attract players to The Northern Echo Darlington Arena, the Quakers manager has seen a raft of last season’s squad leave.

The exodus continued yesterday with Robin Hulbert joining Barrow while Franz Burgmeier has returned to Liechtenstein, signing for former club FC Vaduz.

Pawel Abbott has not signed for a new club yet but he too has played his last game for Quakers as has Gregg Blundell.

But Todd has convinced Steve Foster and Ian Miller to stay and he has also persuaded Dean Windass to come in as assistant coach/player while he has lined up several other new recruits.

Contracts cannot be signed until the club emerges from administration so potential new players could be poached by rival clubs.

But Todd is pleased with his work so far and he said: “No players can sign yet, it’s all done on verbal agreements which is just how it was when I was at Bradford.

People have to trust each other.

“We’re signing North-East lads who have played for other clubs higher up the league, have been released because they’ve been on decent money and want to get back to the region.

“What I inherited here was a system of money based on appearances, relocation money and agents fees which has all been stopped. So in that respect we have done well.”

Former Carlislre midfielders Chris Lumsdon and Jeff Smith are among those Todd has lined up for Quakers who begin pre-season training on Thursday, July 2 at their new base at Aykley Heads in Durham.

Back among the ranks are physio Will Short and Andrew Thompson who Todd has reappointed. Both were dismissed by administrators at the end of the season.

Todd added: “There was a hell of a lot to do when I started and it’s been very hectic since I got back from my holiday but the good thing is that we’re getting there.

“I’ve had to cut the cloth accordingly but the skipper, Foster, is on board now. He had a year to run on his contract anyway but there was a little bit of work to do with him, and Miller is on board too.”

I feel sorry for Toddy and the players it must be frustrating and very difficult. I wish the whole matter of Administration was done and dusted and then Toddy can start bringing in players and prepare for the new season. But everything is so quite there is no news of any progress nad yet the new season looms. Here we go again for another roller-coaster ride

Colin Todd as inherited the same regime that got us into this mess. The club being plundered and robbed, the players ,staff not being paid..Thats the legacy he's working with..We need Honest Darlo FC Supporters on the Board Now for it to change...WE can't trust George Houghton Raj Singh Christine Balford alone based on their previous conduct...
Everything will depend on support and goodwill! Colin Todd as been possitive with his signings so far,Foster/Miller and Dean Windass great moves but for the Club to move on, we need a more honest approach and more involvement of the Town and its supporters,Better info and more football at grass roots level.special offers lower ticket prices for all..The supporters Trust have to be more active also as they have a lot of money donated to save this club. They need to listen to fans and reply by having a say in the running of the club for the people of Darlington & Districts. This Club (whats left of it)now will only survive by our support and money.
So George/Raj you have taken and got what you wanted all along... Give us something back now......

Yeh everybody is a fool apart from you monteforte. To mention Christine Balford in the way you did reinforces your lack of knowledge of the club. Your vitriolic uninformed rants are pathetic.

No hipha you are the fool not others,,Christine Balford as commercial director made a lot of mistakes and didn't do her job right Plunging the club into administration .
If you know so much about the club why are you in such denial about the issues surrounding it?...

I dont recall Christine Balford plunging us into administration! That decision was made by Houghton, and Houghton alone. He is the one who shafted us.I don't trust him, but I'm prepared to give Raj Singh the benefit of the doubt.

The club is an absolute shambles,If people are not happy then don't attend. I will not return to watch the club that I have actively supported for nearly four decades.
