TOMMY WRIGHT’S squad will be bolstered by the return from injury of three players in time for tomorrow’s game with Boston United, while Chris Hunter hopes to return before the end of the season.

Dom Collins, Tom Portas and Dave Syers are all ready for action having recovered from their respective injuries, while Wright says there is “light at the end of the tunnel” for Hunter.

He has missed the majority of the campaign after sustaining a broken leg in August during a match at North Ferriby, when he partially dislocated an ankle and ruptured three ligaments.

It has been a long road back, but Hunter is now able to take part in some training and Wright says he would like the defender to play some part in one of the final six fixtures.

The manager explained: “He’s been training with the physio and joining in with little bits that Caton, Portas, Dom and Syers have been doing. It’s a bonus to see him running round and he is moving quite well.

“With that type of injury, everything that he does the swelling comes back so needs to ice still, but he’s got a smile on his face and he can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“He’s almost got to learn how to ride a bike again, I was the same when I came back from a knee injury, that’s the kind of feeling he’ll have.

“Now that he can jog he’ll want to run next, and once you’re running you want to sprint, and when you’ve done that you want to get a ball out. It’s a progression for him now.

“I want him to play before the end of the season, that’s his target, but there’s no pressure on him because he has all of the summer to get back.

“It would be a massive boost to everybody to see him back on the pitch wearing the kit, but the reality is if he’s not right then he’s not right.

“We’d be stupid to put him on the pitch for five minutes just because it would be a nice thing to do, so we’ve got to make sure he’s ready. His leg is the priority and the reality is that he has a whole off-season to get 100 per cent.

“Him being like he is, I think he will come back stronger than ever.”

Collins has not played since January 10 with hamstring tear, Portas has missed ten matches with a calf strain while Syers was unavailable for the trip to AFC Telford United two weeks ago.

All will available for selection at Blackwell Meadows tomorrow, Quakers’ first game for a fortnight after the Easter washout.

Wright said: “We had a practice match last Saturday, they did an hour and then trained on Tuesday and will train on Thursday.

“Dom and Tom are both champing at the bit and raring to go for Saturday.

“We did three x 20 minutes at Eastbourne. We didn’t want to do the full 90 minutes just in case Monday’s game went ahead, and Spennymoor had had an extra day’s rest.

“It was only an hour, but some players needed minutes and they loved it.”
