DARLINGTON’S chief executive will take to the stage with his punk band at a fundraising event for the club’s supporters group.

As well as being responsible for running Quakers, in his spare time David Johnston fronts Silly Things, who perform at the latest Darlington FC Supporters Group (DFCSG) fundraising evening.

Johnston sings in the band with fellow members being Sean Readman, Stephen Carr and Kev Wilson, and they cover punk classics from The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Jam, Ramones, Stiff Little Fingers, The Ruts, Stranglers, Generation X, Tenpole Tudor, The Buzzcocks and The Adverts.

They often raise money for Macmillan and Parkinson’s, but DFCSG will be beneficiaries when they play at the Cleveland Club, Neasham Road, Darlington, on March 31.

The support act is Ste Johnson who has played large festivals across the country, a guitarist/singer covering music from the 1960s to more contemporary songs.

Tickets are £5 and available from Quaker Retail in the Dolphin Centre.

Tickets are also available at home matches, with Darlington next playing at Blackwell Meadows in seven days’ time when they face Curzon Ashton.

Today’s scheduled fixture at Tamworth was postponed yesterday, and it is yet to be rescheduled.
