DARLINGTON could be without a couple of first-team regulars due to injury for tomorrow’s important game at Leamington.

Gary Brown and Greg Mills have hamstring strains and boss Tommy Wright says they will require fitness checks before the encounter with a fellow club fighting against relegation.

Mills limped off during last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Chorley, a game in which his pass teed up Reece Styche to score the opening goal.

The match saw Luke Trotman return after missing six games with a hamstring problem, while Tom Portas remains out with a calf strain and Wright confessed he is insure why so many of his squad have sustained muscle strains of late.

He said: “I don’t know if it’s because the pitches are heavy at this time compared to the 4G we train on.

“I don’t think it’s down to the workload in training, because we have toned it down quite a bit and doing more tactically rather than fitness-based.”

Portas’ injury was sustained on a treadmill, and Wright said yesterday: “I would’ve thought he’ll be out for Saturday unless he makes a big recovery. He didn’t train on Tuesday and if he doesn’t train tonight I imagine that’s him out for Saturday.”

Dom Collins is out with a grade two hamstring tear, which means the defender is unavailable for an estimated six-eight weeks from the day of the injury, sustained against Salford City a fortnight ago.

“Six to eight weeks is a fair old whack,” added Wright. “If I was told six-eight weeks, I’d want to be back in five. Dom is one of them that wants to be playing.”

James Caton, unavailable last weekend due to illness, will return to the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Leamington, who on Tuesday beat Gainsborough 3-0 with Wright watching. Alan White took training in Darlington, allowing Wright to see the Brakes first hand.

The win lifted Leamington to 16th, four points and three places above Darlington.

Meanwhile, Quakers hope to announce the signing of a defender today.
