TOMMY WRIGHT’S first game at the helm saw Darlington make errors that contributed to defeat at Blyth Spartans, but the new manager is adamant he will not rush into bolstering the squad with new players.

Gary Brown remains absent due to the effects of concussion two months ago, while centre-back Dom Collins, who has been a solid presence all season, limped off at half-time with a foot injury.

Darlington led 1-0 at the time, but 45 minutes later Blyth had won 3-1, with Quakers having made costly mistakes.

“There have been a lot of people around me telling me what areas they think we’re weak in. I need to reflect on that,” said Wright.

“I want to win games and if I feel I can strengthen the group then that’s what we’ll do.

“But there won’t be rash signings, they’ll be calculated and thought out. I’ll make sure they’re the right fit.”

Wright was told on Saturday morning that Brown was again not available, meaning Terry Galbraith continued in the centre of defence, with Leon Scott again standing in at left-back.

Wright was appointed manager a week last Friday by chief executive David Johnston and says he will be allowed to bring players in if he chooses to do so.

The manager added: “David has been great with me. He’s told me that he will support me with anything I feel that I need or want to do.

“He knows the terms of the budget and coming into a new club your hands can be tied, but I came on the basis that I was happy with the squad.

“We’re without our talismen in Browny and Mark Beck, which is a blow, but it’s been a blow for most of the season. It’s frustrating.”

Striker Beck has a posterior cruciate ligament injury which has kept him out of the last four games and saw him fail a medical when York City attempted to buy him earlier this month.
