QUAKERS will discover in April if the Football Association are to permit them to revert their playing name back to “Darlington”.
They recently applied to drop “1883”, a suffix they were lumbered with in 2012 but one few Quakers fans and the club itself rarely uses.
Much to the chagrin of supporters, however, opposition clubs in the National League North often use the four digits.
The FA’s membership committee has now recommended to the FA Council that the name change should be approved and if the alteration is approved it would become effective from the beginning of 2017-18.
Quakers director Jonathan Jowett said: “This is fantastic news for all of our supporters and I would like to thank the FA Membership Committee for its recommendation. I’m sure every Darlo fan will be keeping their fingers crossed for the decision on April 3.”
