AFTER seeing Nathan Cartman end his goal drought, manager Martin Gray wants the Darlington striker to enjoy a much better second half of the season.

He came off the bench to score his first goal in ten league fixtures last Saturday, the little man playing a big role in a 2-0 win over Gloucester City.

It had been his worst run since signing from Harrogate RA two years ago, but after netting for the fourth time this season, and with Liam Hardy now out on loan at Buxton, Gray needs goals from Cartman.

“Making him a substitute brought a good impact out of him,” said Gray, who had dropped the forward to allow Lewis Walker to make his debut.

“He scored a goal and hopefully that’s the start of a good run for him and he’ll finish the season really strongly.

“He does the other side of the game now better than he has ever done, he really puts a shift in. He needs to kick on now.

“His attitude is fantastic, he just needed a goal, and we’re hoping that will kickstart him.”

Cartman will return to the starting line-up in Quakers’ match at Stockport County tomorrow, and Gray hopes to have a new defender in the squad.

Stockport are seventh, three points and three places behind Darlington.

“They’re a good team and Jim Gannon has them well organised,” added Gray.

“We had their last two matches watched against Brackley so we have plenty of information on them. They have some dangerous players and have goals in their team.”

Meanwhile, Quakers have taken action to ensure supporters who need to use the car park closest to Blackwell Meadows will be able to do so from now on.

A change in procedure at last Saturday’s home match meant some fans were left frustrated at being given a longer walk than in the previous two Blackwell fixtures.

The club last night admitted they had received “a number of complaints from blue badge holders regarding difficulties in leaving and accessing the new car park”.

However, a club statement read: “The pre-paid 25 blue badge holders will now park in the car park in the left-hand bay as you come down the track from Grange Road. This parking area is much closer to the ground.”

The National League held an extraordinary general meeting yesterday in Telford at which clubs rejected a proposal to stage both the North and South play-off finals at one stadium on same day at the end of this season.

MK Dons’ home was the suggested venue, but the majority were against the idea.
