AS a consequence of Darlington’s poor run of form, frustrated manager Martin Gray has promised to make some new signings.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Nuneaton Town means they have won only once in ten matches in league and cup, conceding 20 goals in that time.

It is a run that has seen Darlington drop to sixth in the table, yesterday’s defeat coming thanks to a goal scored deep into added on time after Quakers had equalised in the 90th minute.

It irritated Gray hugely, and he last night vowed: “One thing’s for sure, I will be making changes after this weekend.

“I met with the chairman recently and asked if there is scope to bring players in. I worked really hard last week and I’m very confident of bringing players in if it all goes to plan.

“We need to start scoring goals. We need to improve competition.”

It is understood that at least one new attacking player is in Gray’s thinking and he wants to make signings before next Saturday's game at Blackwell Meadows against Gloucester City.

He was without Liam Marrs and Liam Hardy on Saturday, the right-back is nursing an ankle injury while the striker has a back problem.

“Liam Hardy has a slight niggle, hopefully he’s back next weekend,” said Gray.

Marrs’ place in the starting XI was taken by Chris Hunter, while teenager Harvey Saunders replaced Hardy on the bench.

However, Gray will be without Tom Portas until next season as the midfielder requires surgery to repair damaged ankle ligaments.
