DARLINGTON will this weekend hand a debut to a new goalkeeper after agreeing to make a loan signing from a North-East EFL club.

Paperwork is due to be completed today, allowing the 21-year-old to start Sunday’s FA Trophy with Marine tie between the sticks with Martin Gray bringing him in to temporarily replace Peter Jameson.

Quakers’ usual No. 1 begins a three-match suspension after being red-carded for violent conduct during Darlington’s defeat at AFC Telford United last weekend, but Gray moved fast to bring in a replacement.

It will be Quakers’ second loan goalkeeper this season having previously had Paul Woolston from Newcastle United when Jameson was injured.

Woolston is now on loan to Blyth Spartans so is unavailable to Darlington.

Having been red-carded when the score was 0-0, Jameson issued a public apology for his actions and this week Gray summoned him to a meeting before training to discuss his conduct.

“He’s a lovely lad, but he’s got a fuse and he needs to control it,” said Gray.

“He’s really disappointed in himself. He let himself and the team down and he’s got to learn.

“We had a meeting with him on Tuesday, myself and Sean Gregan spoke to him and said that we’ve all been there, we’ve all done something we should not have done when during a match.

“What you can’t afford is too many of them because you’ll earn a reputation that you can’t control yourself.

“He had a bit of a wobble at FC United this season over something trivial – you’ve got to be better than that.”

* Former Darlington manager Paul Futcher at the age of 60.

He was in charge towards the end of the 1994-95 season, appointed to replace Alan Murray, but his brief spell ended after only ten winless games.

Futcher is better known for a lengthy playing career representing Luton, Barnsley and Grimsby and becoming the most expensive defender in English football when he moved to Manchester City for £350,000 in 1978.

He started his career with Chester before moving to the Hatters along with twin brother Ron in 1974.
