ADAM MITCHELL has become the second player in has many days to leave Darlington, the winger following Amar Purewal out of the exit door.

Striker Purewal joined Shildon on Sunday, making the move permanent following a loan spell, while Mitchell has today signed for Spennymoor Town for an undisclosed fee.

Despite being regularly involved in the first-team, playing in 11 of Quakers’ first 13 league fixtures of the campaign, he was put on the transfer list by Gray earlier this month and Moors manager Jason Ainsley was keen to add him to his squad.

Ainsley said: “Adam has a lot of different qualities to add to us and will bring an extra dimension, especially from wide areas. He has been a major part of Darlington's recent success and hopefully those good habits will follow him to Spennymoor.”

Mitchell signed for joined Quakers from Sunderland in 2014, making 109 appearances and scoring 14 goals, playing primarily as a winger but sometimes filling in at right-back.

He said: “On hearing that I was put on the transfer market and Spennymoor wanted me, I wanted to speak to Jason and Alan White about the club and their ambitions.

“Obviously Spennymoor are very ambitious, so it fits with where I want to be as a player so it was an easy decision.”

Mitchell’s first game for Spennymoor could be tomorrow evening when Workington travel to the Brewery Field (7.45pm).

In making the move he has trodden a path familiar those who have left Darlington in recent years, taking the total of former Quakers at the Brewery Field to 12.
