DARLINGTON’S Under-18s are in action this evening and hoping to extend their run in the FA Youth Cup.
The teenagers are at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion (7pm) having won three ties so far to reach the third qualifying round.
They overcame Clitheroe last time out having also beaten Chester-le-Street and Shildon, and are expecting a tough challenge this evening.
“It’s a big game for us,” said coach Andrew Jinks, speaking to Quakers’ official website.
“We know a bit about Ryton and Crawcrook, we know they’ve got some decent players and a lot of them play in the county side for Northumberland, so we’ve got to expect that they’ll have a bit of quality.
“We know they play quite direct, so we’re going into it with a game-plan and hopefully what we put together will work.”
Clitheroe were beaten 2-1 a fortnight ago with goals by Dale Milburn and Callum Davison, a game Quakers went into knowing little about the opposition however Ryton are in the same division as Darlington.
Jinks added: “Clitheroe was a little bit of a stab in the dark, a bit of a guessing game. Ryton are in the same league as us, the Durham Under-18s Saturday League, so we know what they’re all about.
“We’re unbeaten in five games, and I know the opposition have a similar record so it will be a tough game.”
*Second-placed Quakers welcome Worcester City to Heritage Park tomorrow (3pm).
