DARLINGTON'S trimmed down squad may be fewer in number but they will not be short of commitment, says Martin Gray.

His team, third in the table, take on Gainsborough Trinity tomorrow in their first game at Heritage Park since the manager conducted a mini-makeover of the squad.

Adam Nowakowski started Quakers’ last game at Heritage Park three weeks ago, a 4-1 win over Stalybridge, but with Gary Brown having since returned from a ban Gray has sent the Yorkshireman to Bradford PA for a month.

Amar Purewal has also left on loan, going to Shildon, while Lewis Nightingale has rejoined Farsley Celtic.

“The squad isn’t as big now, but there’s no complacency creeping in,” said the boss.

“We expect everything from those that start, we expect 100 per cent.

“We’ve got one or two coming back from injury which is important because we want to get back to having strength in depth.”

While Kevin Burgess, Chris Hunter and Tom Portas are a week closer to returning from their respective injuries, they are unlikely to feature tomorrow and Leon Scott remains suspended.

Tom Davie is in the squad though, the winger having arrived a week ago on loan from Bradford PA and he came off the bench for the final seconds of last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Brackley, replacing man of the match Josh Gillies.

Gray said: “It was difficult to get him on because Josh Gillies and Stephen Thompson were doing great. You have to ask yourself, do I need to change it?

“He’s 6ft 2, I thought if we get a set-piece against us at the end he might be able to help us deal with it, it was just one of those situations when I couldn’t get him on any earlier.”

Nowakowski played the entirety of Bradford’s 1-1 draw with Telford, putting an end to a run of ten consecutive defeats, while, Purewal started Shildon’s 1-0 defeat in midweek against South Shields.
