DARLINGTON have today signed a goalkeeper who goes straight into the squad that travels to Bradford Park Avenue tonight.

Martin Gray has brought in goalkeeper Paul Woolston from Newcastle United as Quakers’ usual No. 1, Peter Jameson, needs a rest due to a thigh problem.

He sustained it earlier in the season and while he appeared to have recovered sufficiently to keep his place in the team, Jameson was struggling with the issue during Saturday’s match at Nuneaton Town.

At one point he required treatment from physio Georgios Bellos, who signalled to Quakers’ bench that the keeper needed to be substituted, but Jameson stayed on albeit with right-back Liam Marrs taking goal kicks.

Woolston, 18, will play tonight. He had a loan spell at Gateshead last season and in the summer went on a pre-season tour of Ireland with Newcastle’s first team.

He is from North Shields and, according to Newcastle’s website, supported Sunderland as a youngster as well as Leyton Orient and Darlington.

Gray also intends to sign a midfielder, though the player requires international clearance as his last club was in Scotland.

The Leeds-born 26-year-old played north of the border for six seasons, playing over 250 games.
