ORGANISERS of a charity match which reunited stars of Darlington's 1995-96 team have handed the proceeds from the day to the Darlington FC Supporters’ Group.

Members of Darlington’s squad from 20 years ago, which reached Wembley in the play-off final, took on a Quakers XI in a match last month played at Northallerton Town’s ground.

Admission from the game, plus a raffle and shirt auction, raised £1,430, split 50/50 between the DFCSG’s Back to Darlo fund and the Percy Hedley Foundation, a school in Newcastle for disabled children. Both will receive £715.

Arranged to commemorate the club’s trip to Wembley and the 95-96 season, the game was organised by supporters Paul Hodgson and Ian Carter and was originally the idea of Robbie Painter.

Joining ex-striker Painter in the '96 team were Anthony Carrs, Steve Gaughan, Simon Shaw, Phil Brumwell, Gary Twnyham, Mark Barnard and Peter Kirkham.

The opposition, for whom Danny Key scored two eye-catching long-range goals, included Roger Wicks, Adam Reed, Shaun Reay, Laurie Pearson, Adam Reed and Paul Robinson.

Wayne Raper, chairman of the DFCSG, said: “Big thanks go to Paul and Ian and everybody else involved in arranging the game and donating to the Back to Darlo fund. Their efforts are much appreciated by all Darlington supporters.”
