NEW striker Mark Beck is in line to make his Darlington debut tomorrow after the club finally obtained international clearance.

The former Carlisle United striker, 22, joined Quakers a fortnight ago, but was unable to make his bow in the opening fixture of the season last weekend at Altrincham.

He was a spectator as Darlington drew 2-2, but Quakers’ officials were relentless in pursuing FIFA regarding Beck’s documentation.

He finished last season on loan from Yeovil Town to Wrexham, but is now available to Martin Gray and is likely to play some part tomorrow against Boston United at Heritage Park.

The 6ft 5in Sunderland-born striker is a replacement for Graeme Armstrong, who in the summer joined Spennymoor Town, and Gray is confident he will make a contribution to Quakers’ season.

“What I have seen of him he has been very good on the ground as well as in the air, his all-round game has been very impressive and I’m looking forward to working with him more. He’s going to be a massive asset to us,” said the boss.

“If you look at his record, he’s played a lot of Football League games as a teenager, you don’t see many 17-year-olds playing 60 or 70 games in the league.

“He’s got some war wounds and some good experience.”

The Heritage Park pitch, meanwhile, is now in terrific condition thanks to Bishop Auckland investing close to £100,000 in the surface.

“The pitch is brilliant now and we’re really looking forward to getting back on it for our first home game of the season,” added Gray.
