DARLINGTON striker Nathan Cartman was named non-league player of the year at Steps 3 & 4 in the country at an awards ceremony today in London.
Quakers’ top scorer as Quakers clinched the Northern Premier League title with 104 points, Cartman contributed 20 goals in all competitions, 19 in the league.
After receiving the most votes in an online poll, the Halifax-born forward collected the prize during the National Game Awards ceremony, which was held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge.
The accolade is Cartman’s second of the week having also been named as Darlington’s Away Player of the Year at last Saturday’s Darlington FC Supporters’ group annual awards.
Over the course of the campaign supporters on coaches to away games were asked to vote for their man of the match, with votes collated to decide upon the season’s overall winner.
Phil Turnbull took the DFCSG’s Player of the Year Trophy, making it a hat-trick for the former Gateshead midfielder who also received the Players’ Player of the Year and the Fans’ Player of the Year awards.
Meanwhile, Steve Charlton received a silver salver in recognition of his 30 years’ service to Darlington as club doctor.
