DAVID DOWSON says he has been overwhelmed with messages of goodwill after his move from Darlington to Spennymoor Town was completed last night.

The striker has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Brewery Field, bringing to an end his Darlington days having been with the club since the summer of 2012 and playing an integral part of the team.

He was one of Martin Gray’s first signings when he became manager and played a key role in Quakers’ two promotions in three seasons.

However, Dowson’s role this season has been marginalised, restricted to a substitute’s role, so he feels it’s time for a fresh start and has dropped down a division to sign for Spennymoor.

“It as such a tough decision after three and a half great years, two promotions and some amazing memories,” said Dowson, who is expected to make his Spennymoor debut on Saturday at home to Kendal Town.

"I had the pleasure of playing with a great bunch of lads who I'll miss, but now it's time for a new challenge.

"I've been overwhelmed with all the kind messages and wish everyone associated with Darlington the best of luck - go get another promotion.

"It's been a pleasure.”

SPENNYMOOR’S DARLINGTON OLD BOYS

David Dowson’s move to the Brewery Field sees the striker follow a well worn path, the latest player to swap the black and white of Darlington for the black and white of Spennymoor Town.

Including Dan Lowson, who was briefly a back-up goalkeeper during Mark Cooper’s tenure at The Northern Echo Arena, there are now ten players in the Moors squad who have also played for Quakers:

Dan Lowson, Paul Johnson, Joe Tait, Chris Mason, Ian Watson, Craig Gott, John McReady, Anthony Peacock, Nathan Fisher, David Dowson.
