DARLINGTON FC has appointed David Watson to the role of general manager.

Mr Watson, who is currently match day secretary, will do the job on a voluntary basis and will not be appointment to the board of directors.

Chief executive Dave Mills said Mr Watson would continue his match day secretary duties, added that he was extremely experienced in semi-professional football with excellent contacts and he understood how the club worked.

Mr Mills said the new general manager was also fully aware of the strong family and community ethos the club was trying to develop.

“We are delighted that David has agreed to join us in this capacity.

"He has held many official roles at Northallerton Town in the past and he brings a wide range of relevant skills and operational experience to the Club and will be a valuable addition to our team of club officials.

"This role is entirely voluntary and encompasses day-to-day management, support and advice for a variety of the club’s off field functions.

Mr Watson added: “I very much look forward to expanding my current volunteer role and I am enthused by the club’s ambitions and I feel fortunate to be able to provide support and help to the board at this time.

"These are exciting times and Darlington FC is well positioned both on and off field for future success and my focus will be primarily to support the board of director’s off field operations and help deliver on the undoubted promise that exists.”
