FOLLOWING Darlington’s latest postponement, supporters are being invited to make a donation to help with the day-to-day running of the club at today’s friendly with Guisborough Town.

Quakers have seen six home matches in a row called off since October, the latest being today’s league match with Matlock Town.

It was postponed, as expected, this morning due to a waterlogged pitch, so Quakers’ contingency plan has kicked in.

They face Guisborough at Longfield School, Darlington, kick-off 4pm, and while admission is free, the Darlington FC Supporters Group will be collecting donations.

A spokesman for the group said: “It’s no secret that Darlington Football Club’s finances have been severely squeezed by the lack of home games since the end of October.

“In particular the two bumper gates that were expected for matches over Christmas are unlikely to be realised on the rearranged dates.”

Alternatively, fans unable to attend the friendly can make a donation at the club shop Quaker Retail.

Quaker Retail is in the Dolphin Centre foyer 10am-1pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Donations can be made either by cash or cheque.

Donations can also be made via bank transfer to sort code 30-84-43, account number 30227860, with all donations forwarded on to the football club.

Due to seeing games with Buxton, Grantham, Rushall Olympic, Whitby, Ilkeston and now Matlock being called off, Darlington’s last fixture at Heritage Park was on October 31.

That was 70 days ago. By contrast, there were only 68 days between Quakers’ final game of last season – the play-off final versus Bamber Bridge - and their first home fixture in pre-season against Sunderland.

In the 1962-63 season Darlington did not play at home for 79 days (December 22 to March 11).

Their next home fixture is due to by at home to Whitby Town a week on Tuesday, which would be 80 days since the previous home game.

Before then, Quakers are due to play at Frickley Athletic next weekend.
