DARLINGTON and Spennymoor Town play each other in their final pre-season friendly this evening with both clubs expected to name strong starting line-ups.

Featuring for Moors should be new striker Dan Frost, who signed a one-year deal this week following a spell on trial which included last weekend’s friendly at Tadcaster Albion.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley said: “Danny is very well thought of in and around the Yorkshire area and did very well for Bradford Park Avenue and Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

“I spoke to several managers about him and they all gave me glowing reports, He certainly has the pedigree to do well for us this season and score goals.

“He did very well against Tadcaster Albion and grabbed a couple of goals which will do him the world of good.

“Danny is a chirpy lad who has fitted straight into the dressing room and we wish him well during his spell at the club.”

Frost said: “I have recently moved up north due to work commitments and as soon as I met the gaffer he sold the club, the coaching staff and the players to me and I knew it was the place for me to play my football.

“Spennymoor Town is a very ambitious and professional club which I'm looking forward to hopefully winning some silverware with this season.”

Quakers, who will be wearing their new away kit at the Brewery Field for the first time, on Tuesday trounced Bishop Auckland, but can expect a sterner test against a team they defeated in the play-offs en route to promotion at the end of last season.

While this evening’s game will be nowhere near as competitive, it will offer a glimpse of Quakers’ possible starting XI ahead of the season starting a week tomorrow at Buxton with Lewis Gibbons in pole position to be right-back.

The trialist is known as a midfielder, but played at right-back occasionally when in Sunderland’s youth section and impressed there against Bishop.

Quakers require a right-back to replace Gary Brown. They will not be offering a deal to Tom McNamee, Bradley Staunch or Alex Kitchen, who have all been on trial.
