DARLINGTON have been handed a lengthy trek to Cambridgeshire in the next round of the FA Trophy.

Today’s draw saw them given a second-round qualifying tie with St Neots Town, who are third in the Southern League Premier Division, one division above Quakers.

The game will be played on Saturday, November 15 and will involve a near 380-mile trip for Martin Gray’s side, their longest journey for a fixture since being demoted to the Northern League in 2012.

Darlington reached this stage by overcoming Radcliffe Borough 2-0 a fortnight ago and then Scarborough Athletic 4-0 on Saturday.

Going back to the 2011-12 season, they have now been drawn away from home on six successive occasions in the Trophy, having last season played ties at Ossett Town and Buxton.

The winners of the tie will be awarded £3,250 from the FA’s prize fund, and Spennymoor Town will be hoping to extend their run in the competition having been handed home advantage. They will play either Leek Town or Spalding, who have a replay tomorrow, having drawn 2-2 on Saturday.

On Saturday, Spennymoor beat Bamber Bridge 3-1.

Blyth Spartans will also be at home, and they will face Halesowen or Matlock who drew on Saturday and also have a replay tomorrow.

Promotion rivals Darlington and Spennymoor return to league action when they face each other on Wednesday at Heritage Park (7.45pm), with both teams aiming to continue their good run of form.

Although a large crowd is expected, supporters will be able to pay on the gate.

The FA Vase second round draw was also made today. Ties are to be played on November 22.
