MIDDLESBROUGH

Garry Monk is waiting to hear when there will be more new signings at Middlesbrough, but he has agreed to let another player go.

James Husband, who has struggled to force his way ahead of George Friend since arriving a couple of years ago, has joined Norwich City in a £1m deal and signed a three-year deal.

He follows Antonio Barragan and Bernardo Espinosa - who joined Girona for £3m - out of the door in recent days, with Monk still happy to listen to offers for more players too. Stewart Downing and Gaston Ramirez are two of the bigger names who can go.

Monk has brought in Jonny Howson and Cyrus Christie from Norwich and Derby respectively, but is looking for plenty more.

GONE: James Husband

A goalkeeper and striker are priority and there has been a fresh bid made for Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood after Newcastle knocked back their £5m offer for Karl Darlow.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

RAFA Benitez has claimed the transfer market is crazy after suffering frustration on that front with Newcastle United this summer.

He still hopes to get the deals he wants done, but so far he has only been able to lure Florian Lejeune from Eibar in an £8.7m deal and brought back Christian Atsu on loan permanently.

The Magpies have been rebuffed so far in their attempts to sign Norwich’s England Under-21s star Jacob Murphy and it has emerged Ruben-Loftus Cheek is set for Crystal Palace rather than Tyneside.

That has been the story of Newcastle’s transfer window so far and Benitez, speaking at the club’s Foundation 1892 Cup, said: "The top sides have a lot of money and the others are spending too.

"It's not easy for a lot of teams because the market is a little bit crazy. We have to try to do our best.

"We know where we are - that is not ideal because everybody wants to see a lot of players signing already - but we have to keep working and see what we can do.”

SUNDERLAND

Simon Grayson is desperately seeking an attacking boost on the transfer front and Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy is on the agenda.

There have been fresh reports this morning that Murphy, who is known to have been considered by the Black Cats, is wanted back at his former club.

RETURN? Daryl Murphy during his Sunderland days

Sunderland, who are also keen on Preston’s Jordan Hugill, face strong competition from Aston Villa, Wolves and Norwich, although the prospect of staying in the North-East could appeal.

Newcastle paid £4.5m for him and would be looking to recoup somewhere near that, which would be seen as too high by Sunderland when they are also looking to strengthen in many areas.

Bournemouth winger Max Gradel is on the radar and they have asked for a loan, while the Cherries are keen to bring in £3.5m.

Ty Browning and Brendan Galloway have arrived so far on loan from Everton, with Aiden McGeady still in discussions with the Toffees to try to come to an arrangement over his contract before completing a £2m move.

OTHER CLUBS Chelsea are preparing a move for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata. The Premier League champions are reportedly keen to get a deal done before flying to Beijing for a pre-season tour next Monday.

Any move for Morata could push Diego Costa closer to the Stamford Bridge exit, with Atletico Madrid favourites for his signature.

Manchester United will renew their attempt to sign Tottenham's Eri Dier. Having secured the services of striker Romelu Lukaku, Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his defensive options and is lining up a £60m bid for the England star.

Tottenham are looking to hijack Leicester's pursuit of Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho. The Foxes are rumoured to have matched City's £20m valuation of the Nigerian, but Spurs, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco are also interested. Mauricio Pochettino may look to use full-back Kyle Walker as a makeweight in any deal.

Burnley are keen to bring Swansea midfielder Jack Cork back to Turf Moor, but the Clarets have cooled their interest in Stoke's Glenn Whelan.
