SUNDERLAND needed a striker and they have got one in the shape of Louis Saha.

Can he deliver? He has to.

Sunderland are short of options in attack. They might have Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won, but there's a sense Martin O'Neill doesn't fancy either yet.

Fraizer Campbell and Stephane Sessegnon are well liked, although the sharpness after injury of one and the future of the other is still being debated.

Sunderland need to find a spark from somewhere up front and O'Neill is still likely to be on the look out for someone else. Wolves' Steven Fletcher, if his £15m valuation would drop, has always been the first choice.

It's a trip to Arsenal up first on Saturday, when the Premier League starts again. Sunderland need to start well, which is what they failed to do under Steve Bruce 12 months ago.

And Saha needs to be the new man to give the squad a lift - for now.
